Thank you for reading! I hope this book will help us reconnect with our deepest roots in this season when a minority group is withdrawing from the main body of the UMC. I hope it is helpful for the classroom, thought provoking for church studies, lifegiving for pastors and church leaders, and accessible for anyone interested in what it means to bind ourselves to Christ and move forward together. It could be helpful for anyone who studies the sacraments, Wesleyan theology, or hymn texts. It would be of interest for those fascinated with the dynamics of North American religious life. It is an unusual work of "practical theology." I wrote this book because I love the United Methodist Church and have a passion for the future of our faith family. I believe binding ourselves to Christ's presence in the meal will unlock what it truly means to have open hearts, open minds, and open doors. I am excited about our future as a robust and diverse body of Christ, solidly scriptural and deeply committed to making disciples of Jesus for the transformation of the world. I believe in being a "big tent" church full of traditional, centrist, and progressive Christians who care more about the love that binds us together and the hurts of the world around us than the opinions that drive us apart.
